Skull Fortress 3 is the third stage based off of the Wily Stages of Mega Man 7. The level has no gimmicks or hazards except for an unassuming pit you'd have to throw yourself in to die. What the map does boast however is one of the most flat and open layouts in the game, putting players' skills at long-range combat to the test.
The main area of Skull Fortress 3 extends the entire south edge of the map, and is very wide and flat. Freeze Cracker is found at its west end, Rolling Cutter at the other and the Proto Buster in the middle. Another wide-open area to the north of the Freeze Cracker contains the Silver Tomahawk and Atomic Fire. Don't forget about the M-Tank and Hyper Bomb on tall pillars here either. A cage containing two W-Tanks and Ballade Cracker accessible via a hallway near the Proto Buster also protrudes into this area.
Heading north from the western edge of the wide southern area across some wide stairs with Tango Roll connects to a separate area entirely. Here, a long narrow passage connects a room to the west with Search Snake to one with Scorch Wheel and an Exit Unit to the east. Bass Buster lies in the middle of this hallway, next to some stairs that lead to a balcony with Rush Coil overlooking the Silver Tomahawk area. Hallways near the Rolling Cutter with Thunder Bolt and a Treble Sentry also connect to this area.
Skull Fortress 3 is very much a test of your skill at long-range combat. If your accuracy with the Ballade Cracker, Silver Tomahawk or Proto Buster is good, you can score plenty of frags in the main two areas. Just watch out for ambushes when focusing on a single foe. If you do get ganged up on, Rolling Cutter is great at slicing through multiple targets, and Hyper Bomb will scare any sane player away! Both are also good for interrupting fights already in progress.
You may find it easier to shoot at opponents traversing the northern passageway. In such confines, the Scorch Wheel, Thunder Bolt and Bass Buster are almost undodgeable. To avoid being trapped though, players will usually take the staircase with Rush Coil out though.
