Time to break some ground!
|Based on||Mega Man, Mega Man 3, Mega Man 5|
New Grounds is the very first Capture The Flag map in Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch. As such, it is very simple and free of gimmicks. Even its setting is a non-descript golden castle-like area that mostly uses tile sets from Dark Man's Stage with only a few waterfalls for adornment. Many of the floors and walls near the bases come from Elec Man's and Needle Man's Stage. Nevertheless, it does feature a very unique base-area, and its small size makes for the most crowded and hectic CTF matches.
The flag on New Grounds is situated on a high ledge surrounded by fences above a depression with Quick Boomerang. The only way to reach it is via the Gyro Pad in the same area. It's easy to shoot at the flag's alcove from the ledge ringing this area, which holds a Tango Roll at its southernmost point.
Further toward the center, Needle Cannon is found right in front of a ledge with Danger Wrap and some Large Health Capsules. After crossing a grassy meadow, players can either continue forward or take the stairs near two Bass Buster items on either side of the map's center. This leads to side-walkways with Shadow Blade and Gemini Laser. Between the two, a grate path leads to Plant Barrier on a tall pedestal in the grassy meadow's exact center
To make up for its small size, New Grounds features a very defensible flag. Invaders can be weakened with Quick Boomerang as they move for the gyro pad in the lower base area and then finished off with Needle Cannon and Danger Wrap bombardments while grabbing the flag itself. With this home advantage, any solo attack is doomed to fail, so be sure to help your teammates by fragging the enemy flag's defenders with Shadow Blade as they concentrate fire on the flag alcove. Finally, make sure you have the Plant Barrier on hand to heal as you flee!
